new or old n4g doesn't matter I guess. the people who bothered to respond all agreed that Old Repub looks underwhelming, visually. but yet I have 1 agree and 4 disses...
@Reibooi: yes those could indeed end up deserving to be called gimmicks. deep story/voice acting in an MMO seems like the wrong area to focus on in development. but I don't MMO really so I admit I'm no expert.
Old Republic looks pretty cr@ppy IMO (graphically).
"I feel like I'm an advertisement, lol"
no, please continue! where can this deal be found good sir?
if Achievements are implemented well they don't have to interfere in the least. for ex: is it really that far of a stretch to have a headshot-based Achievement in FPS shooters? maybe requiring 10,000 headshots would distort online matches but as you lower the req. to more easily obtained quotas that can be pretty much a non-issue, right?
meanwhile, Achievements offer all the potential benefits I was talking about^.
Achievements build all of our games into a points-based metagame. BUT they can be completely ignored, no harm done.
in addition to the potential benefits that T9X69 pointed out, Achievements can add a level of interactivity, even to single-player-only games. to me they add another dimension to the gameplay.
@Marbles: that's technically true but let's not forget MS is also 'copying' their competition, i.e. motion controls.
I bought BMX XXX. it was amusing enough to justify the 5 bucks. so the answer is yes but only rarely and never for full price.
Lisa (the author): "I mentioned to Brian Crecente that I wanted to be a Booth Babe just once, for the experience."
but where's your pic then, sweetheart, so I can judge? don't u dare call me shallow, after admitting in your article the potential shallow-ness of booth babes in general. put your $ where your mouth is, or something...
EDIT: just clicked a link to Lisa. Lisa, you may use this comment as my official seal of approval.
don't even need to follow the link, just read the paragraph at the top of this page:
"I can barely remember how to form sentences when wearing 6-inch heels and tight clothing for upwards of eight hours..."
...all though I suppose that's not really 100% conclusive that a female wrote the article :S
"Does anyone else feel like half the games they're looking forward to this year are downloadable?"
agree. or I would agree if not for MS's annoying DRM cr@p. I'll prob get sucked in anyway, shame on me.
so far Shank, Limbo & Castlevania: Something-or-Other look interesting on XBLA.
sorry, but no. did not start with Avatar. for ex: Beowulf, Bloody Valentine...
there have been respectable articles stating that the recent 3D trend began in theaters to drive sales by offering an experience not available at home (because theater attendance has fallen with the rise of sophisticated home theaters). which is funny because not much later 3D is coming to our home theaters anyway. :D
maybe it's the start of a trend. does anyone even believe MS when they say "exclusive" any more?
"these nigga need to stop playing with my emotions"
lmao bubs+
it takes a lot of capital to weather the console biz.
lots of jaded gamers in here I guess lol. MS's failure rate BS and sony's many pushbacks delaying games & functionality must've left a bad taste in our mouths.
forgot to mention how much I hate MS's nickel-n-dimin DRM cr@p, too.
@sonyfanclubpres: don't act like sega's console run was perfect *ahem* sega cd, 32x *ahem* u know u want to admit it each company has their ups and downs strengths and weaknesses :)
"Oblivion made the Elder Scrolls formula super-accessible"
not as much of a refinement to accessibility as Fallout 3 IMO. I hope the streamlined leveling system carries over to tES5. also Dear Bethesda, Please improve magic spells graphics. Sincerely, n to the b (well lightning was ok...)
"Microsoft Creating 3D Effect By Shooting Images Straight Into Your Eye"
isn't this what tvs already do?
I think that sektor is actually a bit similar to liu kang in play style (UMK3), and I prefer him. sektor's def in the MK9 trailer which I like.
the robot character(s) wouldn't have to scream, can't remember if they do in the existing games. and maybe we could have even a human character who doesn't feel physical pain a la that villain from the Bond movie. I'll give u bubs+ Raf1k1 cause what u described actually sounded cool.
PS robot dismemberment could still look cool, spielberg didn't mind using that imagery in AI. (I know totally diff situation but still...)
exactly. glad he's admitting there are enough people who disagree for him to have to back off a bit. but that's all we get, not a true admission of the point.
well I say F you, too, Ebert. and by the way I stopped taking your word for it a long time ago, as far as films go.
